IGN has managed to get a look at more Predator gameplay, but fear not, they have new info in this article.
I just finished writing a five page essay the day before it was due, forgive me for being lazy and just quoting paragraphs from the article and giving my two cents. Also my sentence structure might be alittle.... off.
"The basic concept remains the same. Aliens, a Predator and a number of Colonial Marines are mixing it up and you have the opportunity to play as each faction. This time around, there is a strict linear story which plays out Call of Duty style, switching between perspectives after each level."
This is interesting, could it mean switching between Marine perspectives, or species? Personally I liked how COD4 did it, switching between the American forces and British forces, then having them combine into one story.
I felt the death of the American solider whose name I have forgotten was very well done, I played the game and found myself saying " So wait I died?", but then found that it was very well put together.
I'm hoping that it won't be switching between species, that would throw me off and ruin the impressive story.
"We were shown a level from the Predator portion of the campaign, with a promise of an unveiling of the Colonial Marines at E3"
Nothing much here, just once again showing AVP3 will be shown at E3, and that we will finally get some other specie news/gameplay.
"Though we haven't seen how the Aliens or Colonial Marines play, it's hard to imagine either will stack up to the Predator in terms of pure enjoyment."
This has me worried... Seeing as all we have seen so far is articles on the Predator and most screens being Predator gameplay, I'm afraid this game is going to end up like AVP1 was flamed for, Predator = God.
Hopefully MP will be extremely well balanced.
"Because a pack of marines can prove a challenge, you may want to split them up. One way to do this is to mimic a human voice to lure a marine from his squad and into a trap"
This is a nice addition, good to see the gadgets from the movies in the game, unfortunately I don't see how this could work in MP, maybe play back voice commands of Marines? Like "Need backup!!", so that a fellow Marine comes to help?
"There is a cost, however, in energy. Most every tool at the Predator's command eats up energy and before long you need to find sources to renew this energy. There are a plentiful number of generators that can be siphoned and you get some energy from every trophy kill."
Alittle new tidbit of information, sounds kinda like it was taken from inFamous a bit ?
"Get in close, pop the blades and you can shove them up through the chin and out the skull of a Marine. The coup de grace is giving a little tug to pull both head and spine right out of the human's body. It's not just for show (despite being a trophy); you can then use the severed head at retinal scanners to get into otherwise inaccessible areas in military bases."
Once again new info, it's a pretty cool feature, could be used in MP possibly
"Aliens drop down from trees, pop out of "bolt holes" and swarm from every corner of the jungle. If you spot one from a distance, taking it down is not problem at all. One solid blast from the plasma caster and that Alien is in pieces. But get too close and it gets a lot harder, primarily because Aliens bleed acid. Sure, you can cut one in half with your blades, but your body will be bathed in acid. You can get away with this once, but if you have two or three Aliens swarming? Your best bet is to get some distance."
Nice to see acid blood is included, even though it was kinda a given, I guess it's okay that you can survive one acid bath, probably for balancing issues.
"It's too bad the acid is so deadly, because some of the coolest moments we witnessed were when a Predator went toe-to-toe with an Alien. Their limbs and tail can be severed, their heads lopped off too. These are persistent creatures though. Take a leg off and the Alien crawls after you"
Nice to see limb dismemberment included, I hope it will be slightly dynamic, IE: You shoot there foot there foot comes off, shoot there knee there leg below the knee comes off.
"And as if Marines and Aliens weren't enough to keep you busy, there are bigger and badder enemies waiting. Our demo ended with the reveal of the Predalien, a Predator/Alien hybrid possessing the best of both creatures. Consider it the perfect hunter and killer. And, of course, somewhere out there is the Alien Queen waiting for a tussle."
Predalien was already kinda confirmed with the concept art from Xbox magazine, but nice to have it officially confirmed, hopefully they get a good design, unlike AVP:R
And I'm glad that the Alien Queen is included, I can't wait to see her high definition model.
So that's my two cents, once again sorry for the horrible sentence structure etc. I have to say I can't wait for E3 even more now.
