First off, it's been a while since we've done this, it's amazing how real life takes over, and this year I think we are back. Site B may be a proboards hosted forum, but I have always treated it like a website, dedicated to giving it's members and people information about games and general news. Since it's creation, I have continued to keep up the work that it was made for, I Know that there's been times when some individuals have called this forum dead, but as long as there is the slightest sign of life, this place will keep on.
Now back to the news. Anyone remember a fps game called BLACK?
Recently on a You-tube video (www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Q-kvif1lBk) there have been rumors for a sequel to BLACK, since the fps genre has been increasing in fans and gamers, with the new gen consoles. I think that a sequel will be welcomed, for BLACK, for whatever reasons, BLACK has appealed to everyone for various reasons, I'd love to see BLACK 2 be developed on the CryEngine 2, with the original work they put on BLACK add the CryEngine 2, the possibilities would be endless.
If you have been living under the rock for the past two years, there have been several games that have demonstrated dramatic changes in gaming. Crysis is one of those games that have shined out beautifully.
The year is 2019 (edit 2020, for some odd reason they rounded it), you play as Jake Dunn, a United States Delta Force Lieutenant, who has been sent in with a squad to rescue a US science team, simple? Like all games no. Here is my take on Crysis.
They have provided a non-linear method in this game, for example on assault, one of the later levels in the game, I would drive to the northeast side of the compound near the harbor
here the train tracks were, and enter from the back way, there's a small parking lot that's empty, I decided to turn the parking lot into a full parking lot, I parked the first Humvee, then get the other one from the KPA patrol (which is the enemy in the game they are the North Koreans), kill them take the vehicle, open the gate to the parking lot, and park it right beside the other, at the end I had 5 of Hummer's parked. Now, I wasn't doing the objective, which was take out the last AA tank, I took my time, which was great no restraints no restrictions, there were also sewer holes that are a few yards near each other, where I would play "Predator" with the KPA Soldiers, one moment there's 3, then there's 2, then there's 1, then another squad showed up, by the end, I had 4 bodies in one sewer hole, and 6 in the other, I liked the freedom that was provided by that game, could you imagine COD4 doing that? Or any other game? If anyone makes any mods for Crysis, I hope they continue to give what Crysis has provided, none of this, look over here, and just do that, find ways around to it, then do it, I like having options in a game, for example in Counter Strike Source, I wish that was more focused on, same with any games like Day of Defeat: Source, Call of Duty4 & Call of Duty 2 and even Call of Duty 5. I'd like to for once shoot down a tree, pick it up, and slowly walk my way to the enemies base, like I can do in Crysis. It was great until I parked my but in the middle of the road, then they all opened fire on me, but the fact that they only saw a tree, and not me in the middle of the road, which made me feel like Wiley E. Coyote. Good times.
And then there was Dead Space
Which is a survival-horror game,
That takes place on the USG Ishimura which has been dubbed the largest "Planet Cracker" ship , that has been in service since the start of planet cracking, now this "Planet Cracker" takes the minerals from a planet that has been determined not to have any living organisms on a planet and they use the minerals from the planet to further expand their resources. Before the Ishimura showed up to this planet there was a excavation team sent down to mark the spot with the most minerals, now the original team that was sent down to survey the areas, found a "Marker" which is alien, there is no real reason why it would be on a planet, that focuses on a "Marker" which considered by some of the characters in the game is a holy "Relic". The game before it was released has several stories that were released to let people know more about this "Dead Space" Universe, which are pretty interesting and they really give you a feel of what happened before the Ishimura showed up.
There was also the Anime that was released the same day Dead Space came out. Dead Space: Downfall
It's pretty graphic.
And a few days after Dead Space was released EA has said they are developing a Dead Space 2 back in October 2008 when IGN contacted an EA representative for confirmation, he simply replied, "The team has been focused on making Dead Space a hit new IP and are still concentrated on reaching that goal." (www.pc.IGN.com)
And of course since there's talk of the dead, who can't forget Left 4 Dead.
This zombie apocalypse focuses on 4 players, Louis the city man, who has a tie, which suggests he was office employee, Bill the old army veteran, Francis the biker, who hates everything, except vests, and the college girl, Zoey.
The game intermixes the survivors in 4 campaigns that can be played with bots, or co-op with your friends or random people online, also with it's "versus" mode which pits 4 infected players against the 4 survivors, the locations/scenarios take place in a City heading to a hospital to be picked up by a helicopter, a camping lodge where you are picked up by a boat, an airport, a barn house where you get saved by a APC. Left 4 Dead came out in November of last year, released by Valve (www.valvesoftware.com/) that has been in development for 4 years, Left 4 Dead originally started out with bots in counter strike running around with knives. This game has been pretty popular, and before the SDK was even released there have been several "custom campaigns" in the works, but one that has caught the modding community's eye.
Dead Before Dawn, which is a remake of the movie "Dawn of the Dead" By George A. Romero
This Campaign has been dubbed "Best upcoming mod" by Moddb www.moddb.com/mods/dead-before-dawn/features/players-choice-best-upcoming-mod.
I personally, am looking forward to playing it.
Well I hope you have enjoyed reading this article, and part two will be released sometime next week, don't quote me when.
